Safely experiment with changing operating constraints, market connections and scripts to manipulate the ARENA database. With the Front Arena Simulator on your laptop, or any PC set up with Microsoft SQL Server, you can try out an entire Front Arena set-up and at any point reset to a stable start-point.

The Front Arena Simulator is packaged by SunGard Front Arena and distributed by Front University as a tool for training, testing and development.

Key features

The Simulator provides a simple user interface where you can launch various Front Arena components depending on your interest.

 A complete Front Arena environment
The Simulator provides you with a complete Front Arena environment for training, testing and development purposes.

 Client and server in one
You don't need to have multiple servers and workstation clients in order to create a useful Front Arena training or test environment. Install the Front Arena Simulator on a single machine that meets the basic system requirements - and away you go.

Run two Front Arena tracks in parallel
The current release of the Simulator supports simultaneous operation of Front Arena 2.2 and Front Arena 4. By testing and comparing the two Front Arena tracks, you can learn more about the changes from one version to the next, a great boost when preparing for your next upgrade! For example, you can run the PRIME 3.2 and 4.2 clients in parallel, and compare the interfaces and functionality in the two versions.

Free access to the SimTutor (BETA)
This is an additional learning tool from Front University which is embedded within the Front Arena Simulator. With the SimTutor you can perform interactive Front Arena tasks and get immediate feedback on your performance.

 Supporting documentation and community forum
Installation and operation of the Simulator is fully documented in Knowledgebase document FCA1644 (community member login required). With a complete Front Arena environment at your fingertips, of course the rest of the documentation in Knowledgebase is useful too. Regular helpdesk support is not available*, however a special discussion forum gives you access to feedback and troubleshooting within the Front Arena community.

*Customer support fee / partner fee does not include helpdesk support for the Simulator e.g telephone support, issue tracking via FASTweb

If you have any questions about Simulator functionality please contact front.university@sungard.com

System requirements

The Simulator will run well on any modern PC where there is at least 1GB of free disk space on the C:\ drive. Microsoft SQL Server should already be installed on the machine before installing the Front Arena Simulator.

Note that it is important to have the correct version and configuration of SQL Server. Therefore it is essential to read the full system requirements in FCA1644 before installing the Simulator.

Availability and pricing

Who can use the Simulator?
The Front Arena Simulator is available to Front Arena customers and authorised partners. Membership of the online Front Arena community is required in order to request the Simulator, and to access documentation and support resources later on.

Try before you buy!
A free 10-day trial period is always available. This gives you a chance to install and test the Simulator using a test license before going ahead with purchase of a full license. If you change your mind about purchasing a full license you have the right to change your mind without charge.

What is a license?
A license is 2 files that you save manually into your Front Arena Simulator installation. The license restricts usage of the Simulator to the specific machine name that you entered in your license request. It also restricts you to a maximum of 15 simultaneous users in your Simulator environment. Do bear in mind that the 15 users includes the various system accounts that are used by Front Arena behind the scenes, so the number of real users will be less than this in practice.

What does it cost?

 Customers and Silver partners:
Free - trial license (10 days)
4000 EUR - 6 month full license
6000 EUR - 12 month full license

 Gold partners:
No additional charge. Simulator access is included in the partner fee for Gold partners.

How to order software and/or license

 Customers and Silver partners:

1. Find out the name of the PC where the Simulator is to be installed
Even a trial license will only work on the machine you specify, so it is important to get the name right. To determine the name of a PC in Windows select Start > Control Panel > System > Computer Name. You don't need to include the domain name, e.g. just enter "workstation01" for this example.

2. Request Simulator software and a trial license
Complete the online request form (community member login required). You should first request a trial license so this is not a commitment to purchase. You have a choice of receiving the Simulator on a DVD or via a download link (Note: large download, >1GB). Where the Simulator is distributed on a DVD we ask you to specify a delivery address and a contact telephone number.

3. Install and test the Simulator
Use the free trial period to install and test the Simulator. Refer to the supporting documentation in FCA1644 (community member login required). If you are not satisfied then simply uninstall the Simulator.

4. Request and order a full license
If you decide to purchase a full license return to the Simulator request form, tell us that you already have the Simulator installed but you are requesting a full license. It's still not a commitment to purchase. We will send you a separate order form which you can mail/fax to us. We do this so that there is no misunderstanding between us on when your order becomes a commitment to purchase.

 Gold partners:

Similar procedure to above, but you have the option of requesting a full license straight away.

 SunGard personnel:

Please refer to the Front Arena intranet or contact front.university@sungard.com

How to renew license

Once your license has expired you have a grace period of typically 10-15 days before your Simulator becomes inactive. During the grace period a warning message will be displayed when you use the Simulator. You are welcome to contact us about license renewal at any time, either before or after your old license expires.

 Customers and Gold/Silver partners:

Please contact front.university@sungard.com quoting your existing license number or machine name.
